Dry Land 03:05
This world can be a muddy place to be There's millions sitting in shackles in the land of the free We ship our waste across the sea and smugly say we're recycling Theres a lot that can melt a good man down Or make him want to stick his head in the ground Oh I don't wanna be stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud I ain't gonna be stuck in the mud, dry land is all I need There's something eerie about that glowing screen It'll tell you what you lack and sell you what you need Americans yelling at TVs While half the world is breaking its back just to breathe But I'm tired of fighting fires with a match and gasoline There is hope for each one of us and every living thing Oh I don't wanna be stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud I ain't gonna be stuck in the mud, dry land is all I need There are a billion beautiful things happening each day And neighbors reaching out a helping hand No need to be to proud to give quiet thanks or shout out loud I'm alive and I'm thankful just to be I'm gonna do what I can to set the captives free But I must remain humble and know that change starts with me Oh I don't wanna be stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud I ain't gonna get stuck in the mud, dry land is all I need But if I get stuck in the mud, stuck In the mud, stuck in the mud if you see me getting stuck in the mud, please reach on out to me I don't want to get stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud, stuck in the mud I ain't gonna be stuck in the mud, dry land is all I need.

Skoga 03:42
There's a magical place not far from home Where the fireflies dance and fawns still roam A sacred wooded refuge amongst flat farmlands Where nature still has room to hatch her plans Dad opens the gate and we drive past a throng Of Sweet Williams growing to the Whippoorwill's song We hike to Old Bart's cabin in the valley by the stream Where trilobites live and the quartzite gleams We can go for a swim when we're done with our hike We can fish all day if that's what we'd like There is so much to explore and so much we can do Before the barred owl hollers who cooks for you Papa rings the triangle there's a mess of fish to eat And a juicy watermelon who will spit the furthest seeds Then its around the campfire we sit To enjoy some s'mores and our grandfather's wit He's spinning us tales of Oink Jackson The friendly talking pig he met in the big one The coyotes start to sing and it won't be long Before us kids are getting drowsy and its time to carry on Mom and Dad load us carefully into the Astrovan And we pass through the gate where our journey began Our home is just a few short miles away And we'll be back to the Skoga soon someday.

December 30th 2011 I was climbing up the Looking Glass Rock Stairway to Heaven Dreaming in my mind of someone I would like to meet Well a few weeks before a wise old lady said to me Keep doing the things you love to do get out there you will see You'll find the one your seeking She's waiting patiently I started singing folk songs getting closer to the top Some birds joined in the chorus and we gave it all we got The sun peeked through the clouds to see what was going on Then a breeze blew at my back to help me along Then I was there At the top of the Mountain She was there At the top of the Mountain And shared the view from heaven with me I was thinking about leaving but me feet wouldn't let me go So I stood there staring blankly and well hey what do you know A young woman asked if I was just staring at the clouds She said come along with me lets have a look around. She said her name was Polly she was pretty as can be She gave me her phone number and said get a hold of me The next time you go hiking I'll come along with you. And less that a week later that's just what we'd do. We hiked on private property in defiance of the law And walked behind a waterfall from a movie I once saw We forded a cold river as old folks stared in awe They gave us some warm mulled wine then we played some guitar I was there At the top of the Mountain She was there At the top of the Mountain And shared the view from heaven with me Well I know I barely know you but you make me feel so nice I like your sense of humor and your lust for life I like those tights you wear with the hole around the knee And gosh I'm sure enjoying your company. And Polly I will understand if you think me to be much too old Or not the one to give you warmth in times that you are cold But if you see in me the things I see in you Lets run naked through the wilderness and howl at the moon Yeah I was there At the top of the Mountain She was there At the top of the Mountain And shared the view from heaven with me.

Well I found my honey in the woods And she's sweeter than that of any bee Much sweeter than the purest amber syrup From a Vermont sugar maple tree. When I first saw her there we shared a blank stare Wondering what's the other got up their sleeve And after a few short days of your company In true love I started to believe. I found myself always wanting to sit beside you In class or in the back of the van Staying up all night or at least I tried to Just to spend a little more time with you. So I will be the flint if you will be the steel Striking up against you is what I long to feel We'll get the tinder glowing then add some kindling And be warm next to the fire while we do our thing. And its been so many years since I've fallen in love But often I'd pray to the Lord up above If its your will and she's out there please show me the way To her open arms and warm heart some day. On our last night together we finally embraced We started holding hands and then my lips touched your face For what felt like forever we shared that little space Knowing that in a few hours we'd have to leave that place. So I will be the flint if you will be the steel Striking up against you is what I long to feel We'll get the tinder glowing then add some kindling And be warm next to the fire while we do our thing. Now I'm back in the north country trying to occupy my time But I've always got Carolina on my mind Baby your a firework and I'll be yours if you'll be mine I hope you had the time of your life I know I had the time of my life So I will be the flint if you will be the steel Striking up against you is what I long to feel We'll get the tinder glowing then add some kindling And be warm next to the fire while we do our thing. It was something unpredictable but in the end it was right I know I had the time of my life I hope you had the time of your life So I will be the flint if you will be the steel Striking up against you is what I long to feel We'll get the tinder glowing then add some kindling And be warm next to the fire while we do our thing And be warm next to the fire while we do our thing.

I’ve got my Osh Kosh denim and Iowa Hawkeye t shirt on Sharing a Cherry Mash with my dad and Greg We’re driving our yellow pick up through the country A Prairie Home Companion on the radio Its Sunday afternoon and church is over And school will be starting again soon Its a July ’89 Madison County summer and I’m glad To be spending this time going fishing with my dad The crappie are always biting down at Cedar Lake And the fish at the Skoga know that grasshoppers taste great Sometimes only chiggers are biting down at the farm pond But the Middle River catfish keep on floating along And maybe I’ll catch a big one maybe the fish’ll all be at church its really not that important to me ‘Cause its a July ’89 Madison County summer and I’m glad To be spending this time going fishing with my dad.

My love, my child, I hate to see you cry I wish I could hold you and dry your bright eyes But I must remain hidden from view But I’ll always be near, watching over you And I am, I am, loving you always my little lamb And I am, I am, always beside you holding your hand Well somedays are long and somedays are sad Others are joyful and leave you feeling glad To share in this life, this great mystery So try to be thankful for what each day brings And I am, I am, loving you always my little lamb And I am, I am, always beside you holding your hand Someday you’ll join me behind the veil When you are ready I’ve got so much to tell Think of me when you long for home And always remember your never alone And I am, I am, loving you always my little lamb And I am, I am, always beside you holding your hand.

Adieu 03:34
Well I tried to chase a dragon But she just kept chasing me To an altitude of splendor My lungs weren't meant to breathe She offered me an escape From the burdens of this plane But when I fell she only whispered Won't you dance with me again Goodbye my love I bid you adieu A love affair if you can call it that I used you, you used me We kept each other from the world Floating dreamily Well some say you can do no good And others no harm Some say you have the power to heal And others just want you gone Goodbye my love I bid you adieu Though you've always been here for me My time's best served elsewhere Time to live amongst the living Gifts were given to be shared Well I tried to chase a dragon But she just kept chasing me To an altitude of splendor My lungs weren't meant to breathe Goodbye my love I bid you adieu.

We each have our own share of struggle And we've tasted our fair share of strife But we all share the option as to whether We let those things control our lives Backs bent from bearing the baggage We lug around each day Its done no good to hold onto Some things best given away Its a big heavy world And I'll try with all my might To do what I feel in my heart is right Its a big heavy world, I'll be light The idea is simple But a mindset so hard to change I'll argue having been there its worth the fight Its a big heavy world, I'll be light There's magic in the mundane I promise Lift a stone and you will find life there Walk upon the path less traveled And seek new ways to share Its a big heavy world And I'll try with all my might To do what I feel in my heart is right Its a big heavy world, I'll be light.
